Phyllis Osborne has been participating in the Walk for Wellness House for 10 years – since she first started attending programs following a diagnosis of colon cancer.
“The walk was going on and I just wanted to be part of it,” the 61-year-old said. “It’s still moving. The first couple of years, I think I actually was crying. They release balloons and it’s such a release of stress to see the balloons go up – and the hope. It’s very moving to be there and that’s why I continue to participate in the walk.”
A decade after she first visited Wellness House, Osborne, who lives in Western Springs, continues to participate in an online core strengthening class and open gym. She attended her first exercise classes in person and is grateful to have had someone gently guide her toward getting back in shape.
