    Traditional and Non-Traditional Types of Legacy Work

    In the work of supporting individuals impacted by cancer, the idea of creating a legacy is a common practice. There are tools and techniques that help individuals focus on traditional types of legacy, from written testimony, journals, and videos, to broader views of non-traditional legacy, such as reframing experiences and ordinary, everyday actions as a form of legacy. Allison Wenclawski, LCSW, Associate Director of Programs at Wellness House, will provide context for a variety of legacy-making initiatives, with tangible tools to bring to your clinical work.

    Learning Objectives:
    Through participation in this program, the participant will:

    • To gain a better understanding of the benefits of discussing any future health care wishes with loved ones.
    • To better understand the process of ACP and the necessary elements of the process.
    • To feel more comfortable completing advance directive documents and communicating your wishes to family.
    • To know your (insert name) is a resource to assist you in the process of completing advance care directives.

    Program Summary:

    This interactive workshop will provide healthcare professionals with knowledge and tools to navigate the advance care planning and end-of-life decision-making process. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the advance care planning process, including healthcare decision-making, advance directives, and how to align care with individual values and goals.  Whether you are planning ahead for yourself, helping a loved one, or supporting your patients, this program will prepare you to engage in these important conversations with confidence.

    Presenter Bio :
    Nancy holds undergraduate & graduate degrees in nursing and graduate degrees in gerontology and community health/ wellness promotion.  She has 49 years’ experience in nursing, with a background in critical, nursing education, nursing administration, faith community nursing and health ministry and advanced care planning. Nancy holds certification in nursing in both gerontology and faith community nursing.

    She served as program director and led the system-wide Faith Community Nurse Ministry/ Faith Community Nurse Support Network for Advocate Health Care, in the Metropolitan Chicago land area from 1995-2018.
    She has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on the nursing specialty of faith community nursing, health ministry and health, healing and whole person health, specifically focusing on the spiritual dimension of health and the professional practice of faith community nursing.

    In 2010, she completed training with Gundersen Lutheran as an Advanced Care Educational Specialist and is a certified advanced care facilitator and educator. Nancy continues in her role as a nurse educator through Durbin Consulting and presents locally and nationally in a variety of venues. Additionally, she serves as a consultant with Lippincott Publishing and serves as an editor for nursing journals with the American Nurses Association.
