COMPREHENSIVE CANCER SURVIVORSHIP PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT TRAINING

Strengthen your organization’s approach to cancer survivorship by learning directly from the experts at Wellness House.

This free, virtual continuing education training is designed for healthcare leaders and decision-makers who serve Illinois residents and are positioned to implement psychosocial survivorship support within their organizations. The program focuses on applying Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) change strategies to expand equitable access to high-quality survivorship care, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This training is intended for healthcare leaders and professionals who serve residents of Illinois, including those whose organizations may be located in neighboring states, and who meet the following criteria:

  • Work with cancer survivors and/or caregivers
  • Work in multidisciplinary fields such as social work, psychology, community health, nursing, and related professions.
  • Identify as part of underrepresented groups.
  • Support individuals impacted by cancer, particularly those from diverse backgrounds in rural or underserved areas.
  • Have decision-making authority or the backing of leadership to implement change.
  • Plan to integrate cancer survivorship psychosocial support within their organization upon completing the training.
  • Have access to a computer and Zoom software for participation.

This program is best suited for individuals positioned to translate training into action at the organizational level.

Training Curriculum

Comprehensive Cancer Survivorship Psychosocial Support Training 
Dates: Caregiver training: Friday, April 10
Survivorship training: Friday, April 24
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: Zoom  
Space is limited to ensure optimal learning experience  
CE Credits: Earn up to 2.5 CE credits by attending the full session

Learn and Practice applying Policy, Systems, and Environmental change strategies to create sustainable improvements in psychosocial survivorship support.
This program is designed to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors, express and manage disease-related emotions, increase social support, enhance relationships with family and physicians, and improve symptom control.  

Training Program Goals

Become a Self-Care Champion for Survivorship Wellness  
Gain comprehensive knowledge to educate and inspire survivors about the transformative power of holistic self-care practices, including evidence-based approaches to exercise, nutrition, emotional support, and stress management tailored to survivorship needs.  

Develop Expertise in Personalized Survivorship Planning  
Learn innovative strategies to co-create dynamic, individualized Survivorship Action Plans that empower survivors to navigate their post-treatment journey with confidence and clarity.  

Master Psychological Resilience Techniques  
Acquire powerful, evidence-based interventions to significantly reduce post-treatment distress, helping survivors transform fear and uncertainty into hope and resilience.  

Master the PSE Framework for Psychosocial Transformation  
Develop expertise in applying Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) change strategies to revolutionize psychosocial survivorship support, creating sustainable improvements that extend beyond individual interventions.

In her role as Director of Cancer Health Equity Initiatives, Maigenete oversees the diverse, equitable, and inclusive strategic initiatives that further the Wellness House vision and mission. Maigenete joined the Wellness House team in 2014 and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Masters of Arts degree, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a member of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society. Maigenete continues to be impressed by the ripple effect of positivity that unfolds when people come together in the support groups at Wellness House; she also finds great reward in encountering the resiliency of the human spirit during what often can be traumatic times in many participants’ lives.
