A Fair and Equitable Chance to Thrive
At Wellness House, health equity means EVERYONE impacted by cancer has a fair and just opportunity to access psychosocial cancer care. This requires us to interact with participants with cultural humility and be nimble in our partnership approach, to help tear down real barriers, and to intentionally cultivate systems and sustainable relationships to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to engage in our cancer support programs.
Health Equity
We know cancer is a disease that can affect anyone, but it doesn’t affect everyone in the same way. Many barriers can impact a person’s ability to access cancer care. Often, these barriers are because of generational injustices that give rise to racial and ethnic health disparities.
Social Determinants of Health
Social determinants of health are the conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, play, and worship that affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes. Long-standing inequities in five key areas of social determinants of health are interrelated and influence a wide range of health and quality-of-life risks and outcomes.
