Comprehensive Cancer Caregiver Psychosocial Support Training

Strengthen your organization’s approach to caregiver psychosocial support by learning directly from the experts at Wellness House.
This free, virtual continuing education training is designed for healthcare providers and healthcare leaders who serve Illinois residents and work directly with caregivers of individuals impacted by cancer. Participants will learn how to expand access to high-quality psychosocial care within their organizations, with a focus on rural and underserved communities. This training covers survivorship care with a primary emphasis on caregiver support. This program is designed to improve the quality of life of cancer caregivers, express and manage disease-related emotions, increase social support, enhance relationships with family and physicians, and improve symptom control.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This training is intended for healthcare professionals who:
- Work with caregivers
- Practice in multidisciplinary fields such as social work, psychology, community health, nursing, public health, or related professions
- Serve rural, underserved, or underrepresented communities
- Have decision-making authority or organizational support to implement psychosocial programming
Participants will explore strategies to
-Apply PSE strategies to improve caregiver access and sustainability of services
-Address caregiver stress, burden, and emotional well-being
-Integrate caregiver-centered psychosocial support into organizational systems
Training Program Goals

Acquire advanced techniques to guide caregivers in a journey of self-discovery, helping them identify their unique caregiver challenges and develop meaningful, achievable goals that restore a sense of control and purpose.
✔ Become a Self-Care Champion for Caregiver Wellness
Gain comprehensive knowledge to educate and inspire caregivers about the transformative power of holistic self-care practices, including evidence-based approaches to exercise, nutrition, emotional support, and stress management tailored to survivorship needs.
✔ Master Psychological Resilience Techniques
Acquire powerful, evidence-based interventions to significantly reduce post-treatment distress, helping caregivers transform fear and uncertainty into hope and resilience.
✔ Master the PSE Framework for Psychosocial Transformation
Develop expertise in applying Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) change strategies to revolutionize psychosocial caregiver support, creating sustainable improvements that extend beyond individual interventions.

In her role as Director of Cancer Health Equity Initiatives, Maigenete oversees the diverse, equitable, and inclusive strategic initiatives that further the Wellness House vision and mission. Maigenete joined the Wellness House team in 2014 and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Masters of Arts degree, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a member of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society. Maigenete continues to be impressed by the ripple effect of positivity that unfolds when people come together in the support groups at Wellness House; she also finds great reward in encountering the resiliency of the human spirit during what often can be traumatic times in many participants’ lives.
